Hello Hello,
Nice to see another “Space” for us to keep in touch.Im sure Blogs will help to ferment or cement our veiws on numerous interesting topics about our community.Im also a product of a poor AI from rural India, but I was lucky …I had great parents who helped me with fantastic values to grow our way into the world. This was not so with many of our brothers and sisters.I guess Frank Anthony and some of our earlier Leaders tried their best. Some were good and did have the community interest in mind. However like all humans some did nothing other than try to further their own causes. But we have succeeded…thats the important thing about this “never say die” community.Lets see what WE can do “Now”.Cheers.

Thanks for the Official Anglo Indian Blog Page. Having read through some of the articles I find it facinating and makes one proud of our heritage. A worthwhile project and one to be shared with other AI’s. Thanks to my brother who forwarded this page on to me. I was educated in Dr. Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong till 1960 and then on to St Thomas’ Boys School in Kidderpore Calcutta till 1963. I migrated to Sydney Australia in 1969.
I look forward to catching up with lost friends and school friends in the Anglo Indian newsletter. I can be contacted on facebook and via email or Cheers for now!!!

Goodonya Max
The AIs have been a part of the 400 year s of English ruling India.
I agree the half cast left behind …were not English(even if they had the fairest skin in the land …as England has had AI heads of state but were never reffered to as AIs some kind a stigma attached best expained in Gloria Jeanne Moores book on The Anglo Indian Story. Then the chocolate coated brownies with English surnames again seen as leftovers …end of the day ANGLO INDIAN stands for a community that were proud of who they were and not because of their ancestors..who simply left you with a surname or pigmant.. )

The Anglo Indian Network is an attempt to use the power of the World Wide Web to integrate the otherwise scattered Anglo Indian Community and bring them on a common platform.
This group is open to all people of Anglo India decent for the purpose of bringing Anglo Indians together to talk about real issues that our community faces and while doing so spur affirmative action and also share their views, beliefs, grief’s, pasts and present lifestyles, Anglo Indian recipes, memories and pictures.
All people already working for the common cause will be motivates and helped in all possible manner.
You are invited to be a part of this initiative and requested to submit an email address which will be added and act as a link to this platform. Group home page: http://groups.google.co.in/group/the-anglo-indian

I eagerly await the first issue.

Sonia Gandhi and Anglo? She is Italian and took Indian citizenship. Her children though Indians, are half Indian and half Italian.
Please do not display ignorance on the www. for the world to see Anglos as stupid and ignorant. Thank goodness I left that lot back in Cal!
Comment by Amused — November 4, 2008 @ 12:31 am |
Hi Everyone,
I started a website called http://angloindianblogs.com to re-distribute blog posts by Anglo-Indians about a year back and now enhanced it with more features and re-named it to http://angloindianworld.com
I’m using the term ‘Anglo-Indian’ in its widest meaning to promote the knowledge of Anglo-Indian (and related) heritage and history among the entire world. To do that, I plan the website to be a platform where all Anglo-Indians, their relations and friends can share and distribute their knowledge among each other whether it be Anglo-Indian in nature or of general interest.
The reason behind this is globally in general (whether it be a school in USA, South America, Mainland Europe or East Asia,) when someone learns world history and they have to find out about India, most of the time very few come across information about an Anglo-Indian’s involvement in historical events.
To counter the lack of information about Anglo-Indians on a world wide level, I decided to create an online knowledge base that is open to everyone around the world (and built on member provided information) about Anglo-Indians, their past involvement in the development of India and present involvement in world events.
I hope raising awareness of Anglo-Indian heritage around the world can aid the Official Anglo-Indian blog and similar websites with their causes.
Everyone who is interested in learning or raising awareness of Anglo-Indian heritage around the world is welcome to join http://angloindianworld.com/

There appear to be so many theories as to the definition of Anglo Indian – yes, at one time an Anglo Indian was a long time British resident in India – (generations) – however, the term Anglo India also applies to people of mixed blood – i,e, British(Wales, Scotland, Ireland, England), French, Dutch, Portuguese etc, etc……. a veritable mixing pot under the umbrella of the Anglo Indian Community – and no – Sonia Gandhi and Mother Theresa are definitely NOT Anglo Indians. I am an Indian of the Anglo Indian Community and I am proud to be so. There is even a recognised International Anglo Indian Day – August 2. It is a great community – please don’t knock it.
Comment by Carolyn — March 14, 2009 @ 9:23 am |

Hi there/Namaste everyone,
I am half English, half Gujarati, and have only just moved back to Mumbai from living in the U.K. , to get away from the cold depressing depression of the U.K., in order to be happier back in India. My father is from Hampshire, but then later moved to Wales, and my mother’s family have always lived in mumbai since they moved from Gujarat.
I myself am a linguist interested in Western European languages and cultures, I will happily watch a spanish, french, Italian, or German film, plus I would like to do some interpreting work to help the feerangi’s that come to Mumbai.
But question I pose to you is, how can one make find friends of the same disposition being Anglo-Indian, In Mumbai?, As I have only just moved here on January the 10th, and have become quite lonely as i have not just yet joined St. Xaviers college, and even if I will do, people here don’t quite understand me, as I’m too intelligent, and have come from two separate cultures, I have no trouble talking to pardeshi’s, but down below i would like to meet someone like me, being of mixed race,
Inshallah my wish will become true,
Dhanyavad Bhagwan.

Hi to all the anglo-indians,I am 77years in age & I am hoping to hear from someone from bombay & have studied at St. Mary’s high school [European section]at mazagoan, Byculla,Bombay,I later worked as a dancer in the Indian movies [bollywood] & in 1972 migrated to Australia Brisbane,I lived in Sankli Street Byculla,so if anyone remembers me could they email me so that we can exchange emails or even chat on the net. my email is terencellyons@hotmail.com
Iam Terence Lyons.
Comment by terence — October 14, 2009 @ 10:48 am |
Hullo Terence Lyons, I cannot say I remember you however, I did know a young Lyons lad who lived in Sankli Street, Bombay in the 50’s/60’s. He also went to St Mary’s School at Mazagaon. you are about 13 years older than I am and I left Bombay in 1963. We lived in Berkley Place, Byculla. I remember Charlotte and Mal Landers too and the Courts from Sankli Street. And Walter. I so remember the dances and functions at the Mechanics in Bombay and have some wonderful and fond memories of a life that now does not seem real – I miss India tremendously. Do you remember the Crooks – Basil, Dennis and Charles? Trevor passed away. The Munroes – Eugene. They were good days – simple and so laid back. hope you are keeping well. Toodles for now.
