Kudos to you, Sean for putting this site together! I just discovered it. Good to see younger AIs using the net, somewhat differently to the older generation. While I can’t really relate to the “where are they now?” websites, I can appreciate the articles (which I may not always know about, from Canada) and just hearing the views of other (younger) people here.

I love the site already — though I did get off on the wrong foot !! Keep going, Sean — the community needs people like you. So does the world, for that matter !

How about researching the life and achievements of Judy Hashman ? She was an Anglo from Lucknow. Great badminton player — became the All-England Badminton Champion way back in the 1960’s (if I’m not wrong). Her story can help boost many a flagging Anglo morale, I’m sure. The famous “Hashman Court” in Lucknow’s Lalbagh area belonged to her family — it’s where she lived and grew up, I’m told. The story needs to be researched.

Hi sean,
Any updates to the site, I have been monitoring and am interested in helping you take this site forward, by the way do you have a orkut account, there are a load of anglos there in communities, maybe we can get them to join up here by posting this link???
with regard to Judy, a little research says she is a canadian, Judy Devlin (later Judy Hashman) (born October 22, 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a former Canadian female badminton player…… Interesting story, maybe some research on it…..

That’s surprising — about Judy Hashman being Canadian. How is her property here in Lucknow, then ? Is she another case of Anglo denial ? There are a lot of Canadians in Canada, as also other places, who do not accept their Anglo ethnicity. Methinks this Judy needs a closer look !!

In my part of the world (Lucknow), the only Anglo activity consists of Housie (Tombolo) in a borrowed hall once a month. This is organised by the Anglo Association. Pathetic is the word one gropes for to describe the lethargy on the part of the community’s leadership. I wonder if it’s the same elsewhere. Another point worth mentioning is that the majority of Lucknow’s Anglos are not members of the Association. Again, this lack of membership points to leadership lethargy.
I believe we Anglos should be engaged in more activities. Football, hockey, cricket, hiking and social services must be part of our annual programme. Our leaders can also utilise the annual Rs. 1.5 crore Anglo-Indian MLA’s fund to build our own recreation centre, acquire an exclusive ambulance, and keep a few medical specialists on retainership for the community. I’m not talking about Lucknow alone — this could apply across the face of India.
But, like I have always stressed, we need a new breed of leadership. Work on that aspect of it, Sean. I really place a lot of hope in you.

Hello Sean: As the Compiler of one of the earliest Anglo-Indian websites, I am forwarded many interesting ariticles about AI’s. I would like to submit some of these for your website. Most of them are historcally based, but I am sure you must know that we are always (as a Community) interested in our history and that of India.
If you would like these articles, I can send them to you as long as they carry the line :”Submitted by Lynne Rebeiro, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada” then I shall start to do so.
Congratulations on an interesting website. You have joined the long list of Anglo-Indians who want to get their message out there!!!!

For information, I am Judy Hashman’s son. The information contained in her Wikipedia entry is absolutely correct as it was drafted by Judy herself. She was born in Canada, moved to the USA as a child where she remained until she married in 1960 when she moved to the UK. She is most definitely not Anglo Indian. However, her husband (my father), Dick Hashman is – he was born in India and lived for many years in Lucknow.
